(D1) Discuss how the meaning was created through the use of the lighting and camera settings

In this post, I will discuss and highlight how we have created meaning through lighting and camera settings. We made sure that thought the filming of our music video, we manufactured the camera settings to fit the genre of our video.

When recording our footage, we used various camera techniques, settings and shot types to create meaning that we could use to successfully create a music video. For example, in terms of lighting, we needed to create a monotone, neutral lighting style to fit in with the style of the music video, which is a dark EDM rock style video.

This means that we decided to use the natural lighting of the sky on the day of shooting. We chose a day that had a grey toned overcast sky which was bright enough to film in, this provided a monotone lighting style that we could work with well and that was suitable to the style of the music and video.

This is how the lighting style ended up looking, with the overcast sky and the digital exposure manipulation, the shot looked very professional and fit the style of the video very nicely.

We also used other lighting style such as fire and digital manipulation to edit the lighting in our video. We used fire to stick with the firestarter theme of our video, and this was placed between shots of the protagonist during the performance part of the video.

When changing camera settings, we kept in mind the style of video that we were creating so that we could embed the meaning of the video into the footage. This meant keeping the settings neutral, so that the footage was at perfect exposure
